“The jazz trio is brought
to dizzying life in the hands of
Alexi Tuomarila.”
– BBC Music Magazine ***** (5 stars)
A trio forged together so strongly that the musicians find themselves working together in multiple contexts. Tuomarila has created a sensation with his trio with Mats Eilertsen and Olavi Louhivuori, highlighting the trio’s almost telepathic communication. Strong melodic, driving, rhythmical soloing, Finnish melancholia and some of the finest musicianship to emerge from any Nordic small ensemble.

Drifter is a Belgium based quartet co-led by Finnish pianist / composer Alexi Tuomarila and Belgium saxophonist / composer Nicolas Kummert. The new phase in the quartet’s history sees the band fuse the youthful energy and vibrancy of ten years ago with the experience of a decade on tour playing with some of the biggest names in the European Jazz scene.
The Alexi Tuomarila Quartet, a fusion of exceptional talents, brings together the musical prowess of Finnish jazz pianist Alexi Tuomarila, Norwegian saxophonist Bendik Hofseth, Finnish percussionist Markku Ounaskari, and Finnish double bassist Antti Lötjönen. This collaborative endeavor marks the convergence of diverse influences and rich experiences from each musician’s illustrious career.
DOPA is Alexi Tuomarila piano/keyboards, Tuomas Timonen drums/vocals and Timo Kämäräinen guitar/vocals. “They have travelled so far they can’t even see tradition in the rearview mirror. Pop, rock, electronic influences, all filtered through an improvising sensibility and distilled into a series of songs…” – Dave Foxall/a Jazz Noise
